PEOPLE’S EXPO

THE COMMITTEE AND ITS OBJECTIVES

The Committee for the People’s Expo is a coordination of NGOs, associations, networks of Italian and international civil society that works together for the realization of the People’s Forum scheduled for 2015 in Milan, in conjunction with the events of the universal exhibition – Expo 2015.

Through events, processing of documents and information moments, it is proposed to:

  • represent the complexity of civil society engaged in the issues of food sovereignty, the right to food, water, land and other resources, in the path that will lead to Expo 2015 in Milan and on the occasion of the review of the Millennium Goals;
  • propose alternative visions to global problems of access to food and resources;
  • influence the different actors present at Expo 2015, with respect to development policies and poverty reduction.

THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM

The international Forum took place in Milan from 3 to 5 June at Fabbrica del Vapore and gathered over 150 delegates from all over the world representing networks already active on the issues of food sovereignty, environmental justice and human rights. The People’s Expo produced the “Milan Charter of Civil Society and Peasant Movements” with the aim of combining the voices of people with those of governments and transnational companies, also in view of the definition in the UN of the new Agenda for Post-2015 Development.

MANI TESE AND PEOPLE’S EXPO

Mani Tese, together with the other organizations that are part of the network, is working to organize a series of initiatives inside and outside the Expo territory that will allow international networks such as La via Campesina to give visibility to their requests for a fairer agri-food system and to express their dissent towards the “Masters of food”.
