GLOBAL CAMPAIGN FOR EDUCATION

The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a civil society movement created in 1999 that aims to end the global education crisis.

EDUCATION IS A FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT AND OUR MISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT GOVERNMENTS ACT TODAY FOR THE ENJOYMENT OF THE RIGHT OF ALL TO PUBLIC, FREE AND QUALITY EDUCATION.

A large number of national, regional and international civil society organizations, teachers’ unions and children’s rights activists joined our initiative.

Together, we ask national governments to account for international commitments under the Education for All.

We do it through:

  • citizens’ mobilization to make their voices be heard;
  • dialogue and pressure on politicians and government officials;
  • any other activity that could raise the public and political profile of educational challenges.

We believe that citizens, speaking together, can have a powerful impact on politics and the government.

The GCE has associated coalitions in nearly 100 countries around the world. Each has NGOs, teachers ‘unions, parents’ associations, youth groups, community organizations and other civil society organizations involved in education among its members. Coalition members monitor their governments’ commitments nationally and aim to make them accountable. As part of the activities promoted by CGE-IT for universal and quality education, the Global Action Week (GAW) is also included, which in 2015 took place simultaneously in more than 100 countries.

The Italian Coalition (CGE-IT) was born in 2008 and today has seventeen members: ACRA-CCS, Action Aid, ARCS, Children in Crisis, CIAI, CIFA onlus, CISL Scuola, FLC Cgil, Intervita WeWorld, Magis, Mani Tese, PRO.DO.C.S., Proteo Fare sapere, Save the Children Italia, Sightsavers International Italia, VIS and Oxfam Italia, the latter with a coordinating role of the Coalition.
